It was then that I recognised Edgar Malroy limping amid the crowd, patting the religious men on their backs, laughing, telling them to calm down and saying things like, 'You really are quite nutty, you know that don't you?' His false eye was missing, his white fur overcoat was stained yellow around his crutch, and he was carrying a giant question mark over his shoulder as if it were a crucifix. It was at this point, as Edgar and his employees set up the Metaphysical Betting Shop on the summit of Everest, that I went truly stark raving mad.
